How Quickly Can Live-in Care Start?
Most placements within a week, urgent discharges within 48–72 hours — what makes it faster or slower.
Speed is often the deciding factor. Here is what we see in practice across hundreds of placements.
Typical timelines
- Planned placements: 3–7 days from first call to carer in the home
- Urgent hospital discharge: 48–72 hours, sometimes same-day
- Respite cover: 1–2 weeks for planned breaks, faster for emergencies
What slows things down
Very rural locations, highly specific carer preferences (e.g. driver + male + dog-friendly + Polish-speaking) and significant clinical complexity can extend timescales. We will tell you honestly what is realistic.
Making it faster
Call as early as possible in any hospital discharge planning conversation. Have a brief picture ready of the home, the person and the care needed. The sooner we have the picture, the sooner we can introduce a carer.
