How quickly can live-in care start?
For most straightforward placements we can introduce a suitable live-in carer within 3–7 days. Urgent situations — particularly hospital discharges — can often be supported within 48–72 hours. Call 07727 304424 so we can prioritise.
What is live-in care?
Live-in care is when a trained carer moves into a person's home to provide one-to-one support around the clock — personal care, meals, household tasks, medication reminders, companionship and overnight reassurance. The carer has their own bedroom and rest breaks, and rotates with a second carer so the arrangement is sustainable.
How much does live-in care cost?
Costs vary depending on the level of care needed, the carer's experience and whether you are caring for one person or a couple. Typically self-employed live-in carer rates are comparable to — and often less than — a local residential care home, and significantly more cost-effective for couples who can share one carer. Call us for a transparent indication for your situation.
Can couples receive live-in care?
Yes — one of our most common placements is supporting couples in their own home. It allows partners to stay together rather than face being separated into different care settings, and typically costs only a small uplift on the rate for one person.
Is live-in care better than a care home?
It depends on the person and the family. Live-in care offers one-to-one continuity in familiar surroundings, which is particularly valuable for people with dementia. A care home offers a wider social environment and shared facilities. Many families choose live-in care because they want to keep someone in the home they love, with their own routines and pets.
What happens if a carer takes leave or falls ill?
Live-in carers work in rotation patterns — usually 2–4 weeks on followed by 1–2 weeks off — with a matched second carer covering. If a carer becomes unwell mid-placement we coordinate rapid cover so there is no gap in care.
How are carers vetted?
Every carer we introduce is interviewed, ID-checked, has an enhanced DBS check, provides employment references and evidences relevant training. We also assess communication, English language and the soft skills that matter day to day. See our compliance page for full detail.
Are CareSetup carers employed by you?
No — CareSetup is an introductory agency. The carers we introduce are self-employed professionals. This keeps costs lower, lets the family build a direct working relationship with the carer, and means the carer can be matched specifically to the person, rather than allocated from a rota.
Do live-in carers do night care?
Live-in carers are present overnight and will respond to needs during the night, but a live-in arrangement assumes the carer can normally sleep through. Where waking nights are needed regularly we arrange a different model — please call us to discuss.
Can a live-in carer support someone with dementia?
Yes — we match carers with specific dementia experience. The consistency of one familiar carer in familiar surroundings significantly reduces the anxiety and confusion that comes with new faces and new places.
Can a live-in carer support end-of-life care at home?
Yes. We work alongside district nurses and hospice teams to provide compassionate live-in support for clients who wish to remain at home in their final weeks and months.
What areas do you cover?
We introduce carers across England — including Surrey, Kent, Hampshire, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Norfolk and North Yorkshire. See our Areas We Cover page for the full list.
